Valentine’s Day is coming up in a few days, it’s sooner than you thought! During Valentine’s Day stores such as Target, Wal-Mart, CVS, etc. have stocked their shelves with candy, chocolate, and stuffed animals. Jewelry stores sales go up and they lower their prices to bring in new customers. Are expensive gifts all that you can do when it comes to the big day?
When it comes to Valentine’s Day, most people think of “dinner at a nice restaurant, and some chocolates or flowers,” said Madalyn Hasz. But there are many fun and creative ideas to do for your significant other that don’t require much money! Arianna Simpkins states that it would be a good idea to pick something that your partner really enjoys; she said one of her friends “is making cupcakes that are the theme of her favorite movie.” You could also write a girl “Reasons why I love you” or love letters for her to read throughout the day. Why not stop by their house and fill their mail box with their favorite treats and a note or maybe conjure up a gift basket? You could never go wrong with making a collage of pictures or a mixed tape of “your songs.”
Valentine’s Day isn’t all about the presents; it’s about spending the day with someone that you love. “There are plenty of fish in the sea, but I chose you.” Take your girlfriend/boyfriend to a romantic day at the aquarium. There are also countless love movies, The Notebook being the most popular one, but if you want to take your girl out, show her you can be sensitive too and take her to see “Endless Love.” Restaurants may be a little cliché but here is an idea, restaurant hop. Go to a different restaurant for each course of your dinner. Is your significant other really into nature and animals? Take them to the DC zoo, it’s free!
Not everyone gets to spend their day with the ones they love. If your significant other is away in the military or on vacation or even at college can you still show them you love them? Of course you can! Maggie Lavery’s boyfriend is away with the marines and she told us all about her plans for him. Maggie is going to send her boyfriend a care package full of everything he loves! Send them their favorite candy, their favorite movie, a CD, picture of you, a note, etc. to show them that you’re still thinking about them and wish you were there.
You can make Valentine’s Day a special day for you and your significant other without emptying your pockets and going overboard! Spend the day with them and let them know you care about them, should be good enough!
