La Plata High School is full of very intelligent students. AP Comparative Government is going onto a state wide competition in Annapolis, called We the People. The competition consists of groups of students debating about different constitutional topics they were given. They are then judged on their answers and their essays.
The AP Comparative Government class does different things such as learning about how different countries around the world work and resolve social or political issues.
“It’s also about the constitution and how it works with the government and what the framers went through to get America where is today,” Amber Strickland a senior in the class said.
The AP Comparative Government class is split into different groups throughout the year to debate about their current unit. La Plata High School AP comparative government class was the winner out of our region’s government classes. They won the competition by their clear knowledge of the units when answering the questions. The judges thought the essays that the students wrote about each unit were excellent.
Since La Plata High School had won the region’s competitions, they are going to Annapolis to go in front of the judges again against other winners statewide on February 14. Each AP Comparative Government class that passed the regional section of the competition is going to Annapolis to compete in the We the People competition.
