The Charles County Association of Student Councils helped with the annual Senior Citizens’ Prom at Jaycees Community Center in Waldorf on Friday, March 21. The theme for the night was The Roaring ‘20s, with speakeasy decorations and plastic fedoras.
Jaycees provided a dance floor, a stage, tables and food. Prize buckets were raffled off on a first-come, first-served basis.
Alexandra Saunders, a member of La Plata High School’s Student Government Association, attended the prom and served senior citizens’ food and drinks. “I thought it was another wonderful year, and I loved the theme and atmosphere. They all looked so nice in their outfits. Everyone was smiling and seemed to be having a blast,” she said.
The goal of the Charles County Association of Student Councils is to represent and amplify the student voice in Charles County. They improve relations between schools, increase the effectiveness of individual student councils, promote improvement for the general good of students, and give students opinions on county affairs.
The group collectively develops ideas for events they plan to supervise. In this case, they wanted the senior citizen prom to bring joy into the lives of those who came.
